Prevailing south-westerlies drive rain straight into the render along this corridor, and a wall that never gets a proper dry spell is a wall the growth comes back on quickly. Knowing the real interval is what stops it being a nuisance.
Not a right way and a wrong way. Two rhythms, and one of them asks a great deal more of you.
Have the staining taken off with nothing applied afterwards and the wall looks well for a season or two. Then the same job comes round again, and again after that. A fair number of houses along this corridor are on that cycle without their owners ever having chosen it.
The solution goes into the surface, kills what is living there and carries on working through the seasons after. When the interval does come round it usually starts with us having a look and telling you there is nothing to do yet.
If somebody has already been out, the useful question is what was left undone.
Tell us roughly when it was last done and what went on, if you know. Along this stretch the speed of the return usually tells us the rest.
Low pressure, matched dilution, and enough dry hours behind it to soak in. Driving rain within a few hours works against it, so a date gets moved rather than a treatment wasted.
Ground rinsed down, and a realistic interval for the next look. Once a wall along here has been treated properly, that interval runs further out than most people assume.
Plainly, because you are entitled to know before anybody sprays your house.
Everything applied above arrives at the bottom eventually, so the ground goes first. Planting along the base is soaked or sheeted before a drop is applied, drains and gullies are covered, and ponds, wells and open water are given a wide berth. Nothing is mixed anywhere on the property. Before we leave you are told how long to keep children and pets off the ground beneath. The garden is part of the job rather than something near it, and it is left as we found it.

A gutter that overflows keeps the wall below it wet all winter, which undoes a good part of what a treatment is for.
Usually by somebody who has had it done before.
Because washing clears the surface and leaves the organism. Roots and spores bedded into the render are untouched by force, so the wall is re-seeded from its own supply as soon as conditions suit. Treating it at the root is what changes the timescale, and it changes it substantially.
It dies where it is standing, which is why nothing is driven onto the paving or the next wall. That is also why it stays gone instead of returning with the next wet spell.
Spring through early autumn, when there are more dry hours after application. Winter still works for a lot of jobs, and it is a good time to get quoted and hold a date before the spring rush.
It can, and it is the reason we do not use it on walls. Enough force to shift established growth is enough to etch a surface layer, leave wand marks across an elevation and loosen dash from the substrate. Putting a damaged finish right costs a great deal more than the cleaning did.
