Empty, and at its worst
The lets are done, growth has peaked after a wet summer, and there is still dry weather to treat in. The best six weeks of the year for this work.
December to February
Quote and book
Too wet to treat reliably, but the right time to get a price agreed and a date held. Booking now means a spring slot instead of the September queue.
March to April
Ready before Easter
Treat it in autumn, check it in spring, and the roof looks right for the first arrivals of the season rather than three weeks after them.
The season sets the calendarA let that is full from June to August has no good week for roof work. From autumn through to early spring the house is empty and quiet, and far easier to work around.
Treatment wants dry hoursBiocide needs time on the tile before rain. We move a date rather than put product on a roof the evening rain will rinse straight off.
What actually happens on the day.
One visit, and the property left as we found it.
1. We look first
We work from your photos first, then confirm on site: tile or slate, pitch, how deep the moss has gone, gutter state and where the run-off goes.
2. We pick the window
Moss comes off by hand where it is thick enough to need it, then biocide at low pressure, matched to the tile. That gets at what our hands cannot, and that is why it holds.
3. We finish it off
Gutters cleared of everything we brought down, access areas swept, and a note of anything on the roofline worth an eye on. If you are away, photos come through the same evening so you can see it finished.

What your own roof comes to depends on how big it is and how steep, whether it is concrete tile, clay or slate, how much growth has built up, how we can get at it, and whether the job needs specialist access equipment. We price from photos, and if yours falls outside these ranges we will say so before you agree to anything.

The roof itself
How big it is, how steep it runs, and what it is made of. Concrete tile, clay tile and natural slate each need a different approach. Clay is more brittle than concrete, and older slate is the most delicate of the three, so it takes a lighter touch and more time.
How far it has gone
A thin green film is an afternoon's work. Moss thick enough to grab by hand has to come off before anything else can happen, and then it needs treating at the root as well. Most of the spread between two similar houses is here.
Getting to it, and what else is up there
Whether we work from the ground or need to bring access equipment in, and whether the gutters, panels or walls are being done on the same visit. Anything sharing the trip shares the set-up, which brings the total down.

What's the best time of year to have it done?
Late spring into summer for treatment, when growth is active and there are more dry hours for the product to work in. Early autumn for clearing gutters and anything that turns into a problem once the weather breaks. Winter suits assessment and quoting, and booking then gets you a better slot than ringing in September with everyone else.
Does the weather affect when you can do it?
For clearing, barely. Biocide treatment is another matter. The product needs hours on the roof, so heavy rain straight after works against it. We move a date rather than apply something that washes off by evening.
Will you be there all day?
A typical house is a day, often less. Where moss has to be lifted off by hand first it takes longer, and a straight treatment is quicker again. We tell you which of the two yours is when we quote, so the day is yours to plan.
How soon could you get to us?
It depends entirely on the time of year. Spring and early summer fill up first, because that is when treatment works best. Ring or send photos and you will get a straight answer on what the diary actually looks like rather than an optimistic one.
