We look first
Before anything comes out, we go round and see what is there. If the leaf is still coming down we will say so and put you in for a few weeks' time rather than doing the job twice.
The honest answer is after the leaf is down and before the wet months settle in, which around Ferns means the back end of autumn. Do it in September and you clear it again in November. Leave it to February and it has spent the winter holding water.
Not just whenever we are passing.
That is the window here.
It goes in the bag, not on your beds.
Priced from photos, before we come.
Each season puts something different into the channel.
It is the rainfall, not the leaf, that decides the right week.
Hedgerows and mature trees around the north Wexford farmland hold on well into the autumn. Clearing a run in early September usually means clearing it again eight weeks later, which is a visit nobody needed.
This countryside sees consistent rainfall through the back end of the year. Gutters stay wet for long spells, so anything left in them after the leaf drop does not dry out — it beds down and turns to silt.
A run cleared in the spring has spent the whole winter holding water against the fascia. The clear costs the same; what it did not do was keep the water off the house for the months that mattered.
Around Ferns and out towards Camolin we work the gutter rounds from late October into December, which is when the leaf is down and the run is worth clearing once rather than twice. If you ring in September we will usually tell you to wait.
The month you pick is not one of them.
Four steps, and the first one decides the price.

Taken out in manageable lengths and dropped straight into the bag. Where it has gone solid it comes away in pieces rather than in one drag.
From one end to the other before anything is packed away. What comes under the job is the gutter run itself, and all of it gets looked at.
What came out is bagged and on the van. The ground under the run is put back the way it was, and you hear straight what we found.
The run, cleared for the season ahead.
We are through here regularly, so a gutter clear rarely means waiting for a special trip out.
The village and the farmland around it, with Camolin next door and Monageer on the same run.
Wider out we cover Enniscorthy and Gorey, with Boolavogue and The Ballagh in between. Send a photo from the ground and we will tell you what it needs.
Including the times we tell people to wait.
Both, and that is the point — after the leaf is down and before the wet months settle in. Around here that window is roughly late October to early December.
It is better than not doing it, but the run will have spent the winter full. If you can only manage one clear a year, the autumn one is worth considerably more than the spring one.
We will tell you to wait. Clearing a run beneath trees that have not finished shedding means paying twice for the same job, and we would rather book you in for a few weeks' time.
The gutter runs themselves — the channels along the roofline. Everything in them is lifted out and taken away, and the run is checked end to end before we finish. That is the job we quote for.
