Why can I not just do this myself with the hose?
You can wash the dirt off with a hose, and plenty of people do. What you cannot do is stop the minerals in the mains water drying onto the pane afterwards. Taking those out needs filtration and a resin bed, and that is the part we bring to your door on the van.
