You will notice it in low sun: a haze across the glass that was not there last week. Ballymoney sits a field or two back from the water, and the salt still finds you. We rinse it off with purified water so your windows go properly clear again.

Not just the middle of the pane.
You are far enough inland that nobody would call this a seafront house, and an easterly takes no notice of that. Salt comes in on the air, lands on whatever is facing it, and sits there until something takes it off for you.
Salt does not arrive looking like dirt. It goes on as a thin, even haze, so your windows read as flat rather than filthy. You catch it when the sun is low, or when the view has gone slightly grey on you, and by then it has been building for weeks.
Detergent leaves a residue of its own on the pane. That residue is faintly tacky, so the next lot of salt has something to hold onto, and the film comes back on you faster and heavier than before. If your windows seem to go off quicker after every wash, that is usually the reason.
Salt dissolves readily, so the work is mostly rinsing rather than scrubbing. We wet your glass, brush the film loose, then flood the pane with water that has nothing dissolved in it. The salt goes with the water and nothing is left in its place, so the window dries clear without a cloth going near it.
The houses we do around Ballymoney North and up towards Ballymoney Upper take it hardest on the seaward gable, while the sheltered side can look barely touched. We clean the whole house evenly all the same, because you do not want one bright elevation and one dull one looking back at you.
Four steps, and the order matters.
Every dissolved mineral is stripped out before a drop reaches your glass. That is the whole trick.
A soft brush lifts the film off the pane and out of the frame corners. Nothing is scoured.
The rinse comes down the same pole, so upper glass is done with no ladder against the house.

That depends on the wind more than anything, and we would only be guessing if we put a figure on it for your house. What we can tell you is that it settles on clean glass as a loose film rather than bonding into old residue, so your next clean is a much lighter job.

Yes, and on a house facing the sea your frames matter. Salt sits in the beading and along the sills, and it works its way back onto the glass every time the weather turns damp. We do the whole opening as part of the clean.
It is, and it is gentler than most of what people reach for. No chemical goes onto your frames at all, only filtered water and a soft brush, so nothing is being stripped or bleached. That suits older coastal windows very well.
